to lay her first egg! It was a whopper of an egg too...bigger than any of Goldie's or Hula Hula's. (Danny is actually frying it up as I type!) Not sure if you can tell from the photo but it's a pretty mint blue/green color.

I thought we were eating the eggs as fast as the girls have been laying...but yesterday I looked in the fridge and realized we had a half dozen collected! They add up fast!

Forgive me for posting yet another egg photo, I'm a bit obsessed (if you can't already tell). This isn't the prettiest photo but I thought the side by side comparison of our backyard pasture egg next to an organic free range commercial egg was a bit shocking.

Hula Hula our Ameraucana mixed breed also known as an Easter Egger laid her first egg today! Ameraucanas are known for their blue egg laying gene...so mix that up with a brown egg layer and you will get different shades of green. Isn't it pretty?

I found...

a fun way to use Mie's cups: ramekins! They are perfect for baking individual servings of cake. I tested out a flour-less cupcake recipe, which turned out kind of like a light and fluffy brownie.

I think Ru liked it.

finally getting some eggs

Our Rhode Island Red, Goldie has been laying us an egg every day since Friday. Her eggs are so cute and on the small side but they'll get bigger as she matures. We cooked a few up over easy and oh boy they were delicious! The yolks are super dense, so rich...they tasted decadent.

a weekend full of birthdays

Naomi got to go to two super fun birthday parties this weekend. I unfortunately forgot my camera for Oliver's 1 year birthday yesterday, but I did get a few shots at Wyatt's 4 year birthday party today.

Danny found it while closing the chickens up for the night. They probably smashed it while clamoring for a spot in their nest box. Sucks that we didn't get to eat the first egg but hopefully tomorrow there will be another one!
